ECD is an important phase of any young child’s life and prepares a child for formal schooling.
It is essential that practitioners are properly skilled to best care for children
Preparing young children for primary school is crucial in their early learning. Capacity building and
training of 17 ECD practitioners from 17 centres in Port Elizabeth is aimed at contributing towards school readiness.
The Level 2 accredited training program is approximately 8 months and teachers will receive a certificate of competence. Constant monitoring & evaluation conducted at these centres
Community Health Care Workers
Access to basic health care facilities is a particular concern poverty stricken communities throughout South Africa.
Trained 10 community members to provide basic health services to chronically ill people at home, and people living with TB/HIV/AIDS.
This health service is currently to the community of Blue Water Bay Extension near Port Elizabeth. The health care workers also provide support to families and train family members on how to take care of their sick loved ones The health care workers are
empowered with basic health care skills which will enable them to seek employment in the field.
Sanitary Pads Distribution
The basic necessity of sanitary towels remains out of reach for many, but in Nelson Mandela Bay in the Eastern Cape - this struggle has been temporarily being removed for girls from six underprivileged high schools in the metro (Soqhayisa, Walmer, Lungisa, Cowan, Qaphelani and Khwezi Lomso). Girls were provided with 6 months' supply worth of sanitary pads
