Sanitary Pads Distribution
The basic necessity of sanitary towels remains out of reach for many Lack of sanitary pads is a national crisis especially amongst poor communities. Girls miss approximately 50 days of schooling annually due to the lack of access of adequate sanitary protection.
All girls in 5 high schools in close proximity of Avon Peaking Power were provided with 6 months' supply in 2016. To ensure sustainability, the company continued with the programme in 2017 by providing 8 months' supply to the same schools.
School Shoes
Avon Peaking Power is surrounded by sugar cane farms and poor communities. It was saddening to witnesses that learners in surrounding primary schools walk about 10km daily. The company donated 411 school shoes and lunch boxes to 3 primary schools Etete, Maguyana and Osizweni.
Early Childhood Development Practitioner Training
The emotional, social and physical development of young children has a direct effect on their overall development and on the adult they will become. That is why understanding the need to invest in very young children is so important to Avon Peaking Power, so as to maximize their future well-being.
Avon Peaking Power's ECD programme kicked off with a total of 17 Early Childhood practitioners from 17 centres within the KwaDukuza Municipality. Practitioners will be trained in basic ECD course for approximately 6 months. The course lays the foundation for good ECD Teaching Practice.
