Avon together with The Peakers Operation, the operations and management company of Avon,
in 2019 collaborated with i4Water, a non-profit organization that specialize in projects
that promote sustainable natural environments.
The three companies joined forces to clear solid waste within ward 7 of KwaDukuza area and beautify
the ward. Through this project, eleven youth beneficiaries were identified to take part in the project,
the beneficiaries received training in community engagement, which they put into action by visiting homes
to discuss environmental challenges.
As a result of the i4water ward beautification project,
community members learnt the importance of keeping the environment clean, two of the community members
became watchdogs, reporting illegal dumping to the beneficiaries. This programme aims to build a society
where communities are able to develop sustainable livelihoods through stewardship activities that build
community and protect the natural environment.
This is achieved through adopting a holistic approach that addresses social, ecological and economic
challenges that vulnerable communities face.
The Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) generates steam that goes to the steam turbine. From the steam turbine, the power plant is able to generate more electricity instead of rejecting the waste heat to the environment. In other words, the combined cycle gas turbine maximizes efficiency.
